Welcome to PassMassAmendment

We are a network of people intent on using Massachusetts Law to make sure government serves "the people"!

Over the last century and more, the people have been losing their influence over our democratic process. We believe that the roots of this issue is the corrupting influence of money in our political process. For educational resources, click here.

We have asked our legislators to rectify this. Recall the “Clean Elections Law” passed in 1998 by a 2 to 1 majority by ballot initiative. Our legislators refused to fund it and then ended it by voice vote.

As a result, we believe that it's time for citizens to act to amend (clarify) the Massachusetts Constitution ourselves.

In 1917, a Constitutional Convention was called for in Massachusetts because of the concern that “invisible government” (their words) had taken over the General Court and citizens needed a way to “keep government in check”. The Convention proposed the “Initiative and Referendum” Amendment which was subsequently passed by the public. The I and R Amendment makes it possible for citizens…you and I, to “reform, alter, or totally change” the government as stated in Article VII of our Constitution.

What we're doing: Statehouse Bills and a statewide ballot initiative to amend the Massachusetts Constitution, based on “Corporations Are Not People, Money Is Not Speech”, as a first step in getting Big Money Out of our elections!
WE NEED YOU! If we're going to be THE PEOPLE,we gotta stand up and BE the people!

WE the PEOPLE of MASSACHUSETTS can amend our own constitution. And so that's what we're doing. Please JOIN US! We need EVERY activist in the state to get signatures, if we're going to do this. EVERYONE! Even if you can only get a few signatures, THEY ALL COUNT!

Get us on the agenda of YOUR COMMUNITY GROUP, and let us know when!

We may not be able to “control Congress”, but we can control ourselves! And WE have the RIGHT TO ALTER GOVERNMENT. And to make sure there's no confusion in the Commonwealth of Mass… we want to clarify OUR Constitution: www.PassMassAmendment.org

Per the Massachusetts Constitution:

"Article VII. Government is instituted for the common good; for the protection, safety, prosperity and happiness of the people; and not for the profit, honor, or private interest of any one man, family, or class of men: Therefore the people alone have an incontestable, unalienable, and indefeasible right to institute government; and to reform, alter, or totally change the same, when their protection, safety, prosperity and happiness require it."

Let's get to work!

SEE THE VIDEO BELOW to see the 2014 MASSACHUSETTS DEMOCRATIC CONVENTION endorsing PassMassAmendment!

Thousands of delegates voted to endorse and to encourage Democrats around the state to help petition this fall.
That's the PassMass banner to the right of the stage.

Yeah, you might have given up hope in political parties, and yeah, this is a “cross-aisle” (bi-partisan) issue, but dang, it was great to be there and have this group dancing in the aisles after this was read:

//"**WHEREAS** the Massachusetts Constitution's main intent is to promote the Common Good and strengthen the Social Compact;//

//**WHEREAS** the Citizens of Massachusetts are alarmed by the unbridled greed, disrespect for the environment and the audacity of the idea that corporations have any constitutional rights, is cause for action;//

//**WHEREAS** the Citizens of Massachusetts feel that to protect their state, they must embark upon a ballot initiative to ensure that governance of their state reflects The People's wishes://

//**BE IT RESOLVED** that the 2014 Convention of the Massachusetts Democratic Party endorse PassMassAmendment's ballot initiative to amend the Massachusetts Constitution based on "Corporations Are Not People, Money Is Not Speech".//

//**BE IT RESOLVED** that we encourage leaders and activists of good will to petition this fall to help get enough signatures to put this question on the ballot.//

//**BE IT RESOLVED** that copies of this resolution be sent to all appropriate media."//
