+\\ \\  MEDIA ALERT\\  FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE\\ \\  June 30, 2013\\ \\  PRESS RELEASE FOR THE "PASSMASSAMENDMENT BALLOT INITIAIVE"\\  BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS\\ \\ \\  The PassMassAmendment Ballot Initiative (www.PassMassAmendment.org), is a four year process to ask Massachusetts voters to amend the state constitution to declare:\\ "Corporations Are Not People"\\ \\ \\ "Money Is Not Speech"\\ \\  We, at PassMassAmendment, propose a ballot initiative to ask the voters directly whether they believe that corporations have the inalienable human rights of natural persons. Earlier this year, we began the formal ballot initiative process with the Attorney General’s office of the Commonwealth, and are organizing petition teams and allies to engage the public to gather 90,000 signatures this September/October. Meetings are being held at The Democracy Center in Harvard Square.\\  Once gathered, the petition must be declared "legal" by 25% of two consecutive Legislative Sessions. And then the voters will be able to vote for or against such an amendment.\\ \\  The formal language and legal discussion, presented to the Attorney General’s office can be found at [[http://www.passmassamendment.org./|www.PassMassAmendment.org.]]\\ \\  Over the last century and more, the people have been losing their influence over our democratic process. We believe that the roots of this issue is the corrupting influence of money in our political process. We have asked our legislators to rectify this. Recall the "Clean Elections Law" passed in 1998 by a 2 to 1 majority by ballot initiative. Our legislators refused to fund it and then ended it by voice vote. We have passed resolutions around the state asking our legislators to act to amend the US Constition to rectify this.\\ \\  And they have not acted. As a result, we believe that it's time for citizens to act. Absent of action by our legislators, we intend to amend (clarify) the Massachusetts Constitution ourselves.\\ \\  PRESS CONTACT: Terra Friedrichs 978 808 7173 terraf "at" compuserve dot.com\\ \\ \\
